Nadine, Nell named black models of success

Faced with strident charges by perennial black supermodel Naomi Campbell, British model industry establishment agency Select Model Management drew on the success of two of the world's top models from Pulse, Nadine Willis and Nell Robinson, as proof of the quality of the work effected by black talent.

Three years after a ground-breaking Vogue editorial with photographer great Mario Testino and her historic rise to fame in the international modelling world, Nadine Willis is still making headlines. Willis, who scored several firsts, blazing a trail for black girls in the modern modelling era, counts Gucci, Kenneth Cole, Rimmel, Moschino, Jaguar and several other ultra luxe, high-end fashion brands among her many clients.

Interview with Felicia Kristine from ANTM!

Felicia Kristine was one of the contestants in Cycle 8 of the TV show America's Next Top Model. What I liked about her was her look and style; she just had such energy and finesse which I didnt see in the other contestants. You could see her in a music video dancing on the one hand and on a runway in Paris on the other, and she would rock it! I was quite sure she was going to be a finalist. I was so disappointed when she got elimated, but I thought that she had great potential to go on her own and do big things. Check out my interview with the model who I know will go beyond the appearance on ANTM. Don't call her "Baby Tyra", she's Felicia Kristine!

For those reading who don’t watch ANTM, tell them a little about yourself? What's up I'm 19 and I've been living in Houston all my life. By the way...on the show my eyebrows were a mess...but they're perfect Ok. let's get down with these questions....

Has the show made you a celebrity in that even after the show, people see you on the street and know you as “Baby Trya”? KINDA....YEAH PEOPLE NOTICE ME BUT I'M NOT A CELEBRITY....<>

What was the most memorable thing about being on ANTM? MEETING ALL THE GIRLS FOR THE FIRST TIME.

As far as how you were treated on the show, I felt that there was a double standard in that the one picture that didn’t go over so well made it so you were off the show. However, other contestants had so-so pictures and they seemed to get further. Do you agree and why do you think that was the case? I SAY THAT YES THERE ARE GIRLS THAT GOT FURTHER ON PICS THAT WERE JUST OK....IT WAS CRAP....POINT BLANK PERIOD

For any models who are reading, what do you suggest is the best way to get over in the audition to be a contestant on ANTM? BE YOURSELF AND SHOW YOURSELF FOR WHO YOU ARE...NOT WHO YOU THINK THEY WANT TO SEE

I think that the ANTM judges labeled you as being “too hip hop” for their show and I don’t think that’s such a bad thing. Would you go that route of being in G-Unit or P Diddy videos? ONLY CLASSY VIDEOS FOR ME.....LIKE THE MAIN GIRL IN A COMMON VIDEO OR OMARION.

I also think that you could be on any magazine because you have that model look. What magazine would you most want to be on the cover of if you had your choice? VOGUE

Do you have any plans to create a website or be in any magazines? I ALREADY HAVE A WEBSITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION....WWW.FELICIAPROVOST.COM

I’m glad I got a chance to interview the model who I feel should have been the next ANTM! I know you got to have a lot of fans like myself so is there anything that you want to throw out to the people? I LOVE AND APPRECIATE ALL YOUR SUPPORT. YOU GIVE ME THAT EXTRA PUSH TO TRY HARDER.

Article:Cosmetics Lets Me Try Out for a Possible New Career

I am usually content on This Side of a fashion show. As a style editor, I’m lucky enough to be among those invited to see runway presentations — music, cameras, glam models, clothes and designer bows at the end.Rarely do i venture to the Other Side, the “backstage” side, where preparations begin hours and hours before the show. So, when Heather Park of MAC cosmetics recently invited me to be a makeup artist for a day, working on models during San Francisco Fashion Week, I was game.(photo by Jose Lepe/Mercury News)

Vida's Meter Maid Gets Spanked

TMZ has learned that the "meter maid" who asked for a naked photo of bikini model Vida Guerra in return for leniency on her parking ticket has been officially suspended. Not so lovely!

According to Parking Enforcement Manager Eric Ruiz, officer L. Salgado will not be patrolling the sidewalks while the City conducts an official investigation into the incident. Furthermore, buzz inside the station is that Salgado, who is said to be 18 or 19-years-old, will be fired.

TMZ caught the whole thing on tape over the weekend, showing that after ticketing Guerra, Salgado was heard telling Vida's friend, "You got a naked picture of her, we make the price stay right." That's the ticket!

From Hatablog:Glamour Magazine says Black hair is a no no in Corporate America

The latest issue of Glamour advises readers use Kimble leave-in conditioner followed by a flat iron followed by a curling iron followed by spritzer and augmented with hair extensions to achieve “Mary J. Blige’s loose beautiful curls.” Um, how about time better spent solving the mortgage crisis? Well, a recent slide show by an unidentified Glamour editor on the “Dos and Don’ts of Corporate Fashion” at a New York law firm shed some light on the topic, according to this month’s American Lawyer magazine.

First slide up: an African American woman sporting an Afro. A real no-no, announced the ‘Glamour’ editor to the 40 or so lawyers in the room. As for dreadlocks: How truly dreadful! The style maven said it was ’shocking’ that some people still think it ‘appropriate’ to wear those hairstyles at the office. ‘No offense,’ she sniffed, but those ‘political’ hairstyles really have to go.

Friday, August 17, 2007 to Assist Chicago Audition for VH1's 'Flavor of Love Season 3'

The casting directors from VH1 are looking for America's finest women! From the producers of The Surreal Life and My fair Brady, I Love New York, Charm School, Rock of Love, and the previous Flavor of Love, they are working with in the chicago casting call.

(PRWEB) August 17, 2007 -- is going to hold "Flavor of Love Season 3" auditions on Saturday, Aug. 18 in Chicago.

Claude Julian had a vision to create which is a website dedicated specifically to models that have appeared in music videos. Music Videos are the medium where an urban model can shine and not worry about if she is tall enough or skinny enough to be considered for work. Video Vixens come in all shapes and sizes and music videos embrace all that is beautiful about a woman. Honestly, do you think anybody would watch music videos if it weren't for the models?

Why do fashion models look so grumpy?

Look, you know how your work kinda makes your life suck? You suffer the rush hour, you're too tired to have a social life and the condition of the office toilets bring to mind images from the New Orleans Superdome. Well, try being a model: you can't eat, you barely get to sleep and you often have to wear really stupid clothes yet keep a straight face while the photographer shouts about how you should shag the camera, or something. I'm always grateful to get out of a fashion show alive as one day, sure as eggs, one of those models is going to go postal on the catwalk and stab a front-row editor through the heart with her stiletto heel.

There seems to be a general misapprehension that models lead really glamorous lives. Well, maybe I have high standards but schlepping around to parties for new mobile-phone network launches and getting leched on by P Diddy don't exactly qualify as the top echelon of glamour in my little world. Yes, we've all seen those tedious photos of "models backstage!" in which they seem to be gambolling about like little lambs in a field, making faces so exaggeratedly gleeful that a mime artist would probably weep for them. But what do those lipsticked grins hide, I ask you? Nights alone in hotel rooms without even room service to provide succour, that's what, and the terror of being described as an old trouper once they turn 24.

Despite all that, some seem to find it hard to move on from what Bruce Springsteen describes as these "glory days". There's Twiggy, still apparently finding joy 40 years on in twirling around in long skirts for M&S; there's Cindy Crawford banging on about how brilliant it is to have cosmetic surgery. And looky here - Helena Christensen advertising Ariel soap powder (glamour? Ooh, it never ends) on TV by saying, "It's cool being a supermodel. But it's even cooler being a role model." Like, could you be any more tragic? Wouldn't you look grumpy if that was your future?

Quote from an interview with Buffie the Body!

If you think about it, Americans always thought of beauty as being light or exotic-looking and all of that. My appearance is just the girl next door, it was nothing special about me. Now, since I came out, you see so many girls like that [in videos and magazines] that it's not even a big deal anymore. That's one of the reasons why I'm getting into reality stuff and branding. The reason why a lot of girls find it hard to blow up the way I did is because there was a desire. Now, there's so many girls with big booties, that now it's not new.
